In a videoconference held between the Secretary-General-elect of the Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC), H.E. Manssour Bin Mussallam, and the Secretary-General of The Union of Latin American and Caribbean Universities (UDUAL), Dr. Roberto Escalante Semerena, the head of both organisations expressed their conviction in the necessity for strengthened, solidarity-based cooperation between the OEC and academic institutions in the Global South.
The Secretary-General-elect emphasized the fundamental and essential role of UDUAL – as an Associate Member of the OEC – in the pursuit and realization of the vision of the Universal Declaration of Balanced and Inclusive Education (UDBIE), and expressed OEC’s determination to put in place effective collaboration mechanisms between the Organisation, its Member States and its Associate Members. Dr. Escalante Semerena reiterated UDUAL’s readiness to support the OEC and the implementation of its programmes of work.
On 29 January 2020, UDUAL became a signatory to the Constitutive Charter of the OEC and thereby one of the 12 Associate Members of the Organisation. Facilitating effective cross-sectoral collaboration between its Member States and its Associate Members constitutes a strategic priority for the Organisation to enhance education’s potential as the catalyst of equitable sustainable development.
