OEC concludes its official visit to Nicaragua

“It has been an extraordinary, historic visit”, said the Secretary-General of the Organisation of educational Cooperation (OEC), H.E. Mr. Manssour Bin Mussallam, in conversation with the Advisor to the President on Education, H.E. Mr. Salvador Vanegas Guido, and the Minister of Education, H.E. Ms. Lilliam Herrera Moreno, as they bade farewell to the Republic of Nicaragua on 24 March.

In a quick summary, he highlighted the hospitality of the President Comandante. Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Vice-President Rosario Murillo, as well as each of the authorities and actors with whom he held dialogues in order to build a plan of action from the South, coordinating the exchange of knowledge in pursuit of progress.

He also attached great importance to the challenge that citizens are taking on in order to jointly transform the concept of education not only as a human right but also as a proactive instrument for the construction of a better society and a better world to Nicaraguan reality.

Particularly on the activities and results of his official visit to the Central American nation, Bin Mussallam highlighted the initiatives and policies undertaken by the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity to fulfil the commitments contained in the Universal Declaration on Balanced and Inclusive Education (UDBIE).

In commending the Organisation’s drive to be a powerful and original integration platform, Vanegas Guido expressed interest in further deepening common agenda items such as education, innovation and social justice.

The Organisation, as a collective of sovereign and supportive states, leaves strengthened in the knowledge that the aspiration for an authentically alternative and inclusive third way of development is becoming more and more concrete.
