OEC present at Central Act for the 42nd anniversary of the National Literacy Crusade in Nicaragua

At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, H.E. Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Vice-President. H.E. Ms. Rosario Murillo, the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC), H.E. Mr. Manssour Bin Musallam, participated this 23 March in the Central Act in commemoration of the 42nd anniversary of the Great National Literacy Crusade to discuss the collective construction from the South of a third way of development for the welfare of citizens.

In the symbolic moment, Ortega Saavedra presented medals and diplomas of recognition to students of academic excellence, and to the best teachers of the Central American country.

In his message, the Nicaraguan leader stressed that in these new times of song, life and hope, the challenge for humanity and the peoples of the world is to work for peace, education being an important link to achieve development, justice and peace.

Also present at the event were the Advisor to the Presidency on Education, H.E. Mr. Salvador Vanegas; the President of the Association of Popular Education, Mr. Carlos Fonseca and profesor Mr. Orlando Pineda.

The celebration was joined by the Minister of Education, H.E. Ms Lilliam Herrera, the President of the National Council of Universities (CNU) and Rector of UNAN-Managua, Ms Ramona Rodríguez, the Permanent Secretary of the Nicaraguan Commission for Cooperation of UNESCO, H.E. Mr Arturo Collado, the National President of the Federation of Secondary School Students (FES), H.E. Ms Michele Hernández and the Director of the National Technological Institute (INATEC).
