OEC Secretary-General-elect and Comorian Education Minister hold bilateral meeting

The Secretary-General-elect of the Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC), H.E. Manssour Bin Mussallam, met in Moroni with the Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Union of Comoros, H.E. Moindjié Mohamed Moussa, as part of his official visit to the country. After welcoming the Secretary-General-elect to Moroni, the Minister explained that education was central to the national development plan of Comoros in order to meet its objective of becoming an emerging economy by 2030.

Expressing appreciation to the Secretary-General-elect’s leadership in the preparatory phase of the Organisation, the Minister conveyed the Comorian Government’s support for OEC’s operationalisation as an instrument of international, equitable cooperation and solidarity.

The Secretary-General-elect expressed, in turn, his appreciation for Comoros’ commitment to the OEC’s operationalisation and the Organisation’s resolve to support Comoros in the realisation of its national aspirations for equitable, sustainable development.

Following a brief presentation of the main lines of action and medium-term strategic objectives to be proposed at the General Assembly, the Secretary-General-elect and the Minister of Education discussed their alignment to the needs of the Comorian education system and explored the means through which to ensure their effective implementation in service of the expectations and aspirations of youth.

The bilateral meeting was followed by a media brief, during which national and local journalists from Comoros were invited to inquire regarding the 4 pillars of Balanced and Inclusive Education (BIE), the Universal Declaration of Balanced and Inclusive Education (UDBIE), the process towards OEC’s operationalisation and the Organisation’s future vision for education.

Following the media brief, the Secretary-General-elect was received by the Secretary of State in charge of Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Comoros, H.E. Takiddine Youssouf. 

During the meeting, the Secretary-General-elect expressed the Organisation’s determination for the pursuit of multifaceted cooperation between OEC and Comoros in areas of common interest and complement endeavours undertaken by the country to address development challenges. 

The Secretary of State reaffirmed, in turn, Comoros’ support towards OEC’s establishment and the development and implementation of the Organisation’s programme of activities.
