The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC), H.E. Mr Manssour Bin Mussallam, will conduct an official visit to the Republic of Nicaragua from 21 to 24 March 2022, at the invitation of the Government of Nicaragua, with the objective of broadening the prospects and scope for multifaceted cooperation between the OEC and Nicaragua in areas of common interest, in the field of education, innovation and development.
During his stay, the OEC Secretary-General is due to hold official talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Denis Moncada, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Arlette Marenco, and the Minister of Education, H.E. Lilliam Herrera.
To support the country in the realisation of the commitments contained within the Universal Declaration of Balanced and Inclusive Education (UDBIE), meetings are planned with the Advisor to the President for Education issues, Salvador Vanegas, the Director of the National Technological Institute, Loyda Barreda, and the President of the National Council of Universities and Rector of UNAN-Managua, Ramona Rodríguez.
An essential visit will be made at the Educational Centre “República de Cuba” to learn about the different programmes implemented there: school meals, learning of English as a second language, use of educational technology, school sports, workshops on art and culture.
Another moment of special interest will be the exchange with the President of the National Union of Students of Nicaragua, Carlos Eduardo Díaz, and members of his council, a space for in-depth debate on the challenges and initiatives of educational cooperation as a tool for forging the future we want.
This is the first official visit abroad undertaken by the Secretary-General to an OEC Member State since taking office during the General Assembly in December 2021. It should be noted that Nicaragua was the first nation, of the 27 Founding States of the Organisation, to ratify the Constitutive Charter as an instrument of intellectual, technical-financial cooperation and solidarity.
